Neuropathy And Blood Sugar Levels
Neuropathy is a sign of nerve damage and figuring out it is happening may take some testing and visits to the doctor. One of the conditions that can cause neuropathy of the feet is diabetes and sometime these symptoms show up before full-blown diabetes develops. They can also be caused by elevated blood sugar levels and this too, depending on how severe, is a symptom of diabetes or a pre-diabetic condition. These health problems are best avoided and changing your life style is one way to avoid these problems.
Often elevated blood sugar levels are a condition of what you consume every day and the more glucose that you take in the more there is getting absorbed into the bloodstream and then needing to be moved out to cells that need it for fuel. Once those cells are full the rest will be stored as fat for future energy needs. If the blood sugar regulation system is not working right or if you have become insulin resistant then the blood sugar won’t get moved out of the blood stream and will continue to circulate. This can contribute to neuropathy in the feet and getting this reversed is necessary to retaining good health.
Changing to a diet that is more heavily balanced toward protein, fiber and good fats and less toward carbohydrates will give your body less glucose to deal with after each meal and may also burn some of that stored sugar (fat) to use as fuel. Losing weight should also reduce the amount of insulin resistance and help get that blood sugar control system working again.
Pay attention to your feet and if they exhibit burning or strange tingling it may be time to do some further testing and figure out what is causing it. Making changes before the condition is too severe will make the return to good health quicker and more sure.
